Creating Croatian Cigarettes

Creating a “Croatian Safe” cigarette is a fully DIY, additive-free alternative to commercial brands like Marlboro. It uses hemp paper, hemp-based filter, natural hemp-derived or plant-based glue, and air-dried organic tobacco. No chemical additives, flavorings, or preservatives—just natural materials for a cleaner burn and taste.

Option 1: Easiest – Use Pre-Made Hemp Components + Organic Tobacco (Recommended for Beginners)

This gets you 90% of the way with minimal effort while staying true to the hemp-only spec.

Materials

  • Hemp paper + built-in filter: Kashmir Organic Hemp cigarette tubes (or similar 100% hemp pre-rolled tubes with hemp/paper filters—available online from specialty smoke shops). These are unbleached hemp fiber tubes designed exactly for this.
  • Hemp glue/sealant (if needed for repairs): Plant-based rolling glue (e.g., GlueGar or similar cellulose-based glues sold for wraps/papers—flavorless and natural).
  • Air-dried organic tobacco: USDA-certified organic air-cured tobacco leaves or shredded RYO tobacco (e.g., Organic Burley, Virginia, or Canadian varieties from suppliers like LeafOnly.com). Air-cured means naturally dried without flue-curing chemicals or additives—pure tobacco taste.

Steps

  1. Shred the tobacco if using whole leaves (use a dedicated tobacco shredder, sharp scissors, or pasta machine for fine cut). Aim for even, cigarette-like shreds. Dry further if needed for smooth burning.
  2. Load a manual cigarette injector/tube filler (cheap on Amazon) with the shredded tobacco. Insert the hemp tube and pack firmly but not too tight.
  3. Seal the end if needed with a thin layer of natural hemp/plant glue. Let dry 1–2 minutes.
  4. Light and enjoy your additive-free hemp cigarette.

This gives you a true hemp-based cigarette (paper + filter) with clean tobacco.

Option 2: Full DIY from Scratch (Advanced – Make Everything Hemp-Based)

For the complete homemade experience.

1. Make Hemp Rolling Paper

Materials (makes several sheets):

  • Raw hemp fibers (dried stalks, hurd, twine, or undyed 100% hemp fabric scraps).
  • Blender/food processor, large tub/bucket, papermaking mold & deckle (DIY: wooden picture frame + window screen mesh).
  • Absorbent cloths/felt, heavy books or press, flat drying surface.
  • Optional for gum: food-grade gum arabic powder or honey (diluted).

Steps

  1. Soak hemp fibers in warm water (2+ hours or overnight). Optional: boil with a bit of baking soda 1 hour, then rinse.
  2. Blend soaked fibers with plenty of water into a smooth, soupy pulp (no chunks).
  3. Fill tub with water + pulp slurry. Dip mold/deckle underwater, lift slowly while shaking for even thin layer. Drain excess.
  4. Couch (flip) onto cloth, press with another cloth/rolling pin to remove water. Stack and press under heavy weight.
  5. Air-dry fully (12–24 hours). Iron lightly if wrinkled. Cut into cigarette-paper size (e.g., 78 mm × 44 mm for 1¼ size).
  6. Add glue strip: Brush thin line of diluted honey/gum arabic along one long edge. Dry.

Your homemade hemp paper will be slightly thicker than store-bought but burns clean and slow.

2. Make Hemp Filter (Tip)

Materials: Scraps from your hemp paper or extra hemp fibers/twine.

Steps (W-accordion or rolled style)

  1. Cut a small rectangle of your homemade hemp paper (about 2–3 cm wide).
  2. Fold one end into a tight “W” zigzag (3–4 folds) for structure and airflow.
  3. Roll the rest of the strip tightly around the W to form a short cylinder (matches cigarette diameter).
  4. Or simply roll a strip of hemp fiber tightly into a firm tube. Trim to fit.

This is 100% hemp and prevents bits from entering your mouth.

3. Make/Use Hemp Glue (Adhesive)

Simple natural recipe (plant-based, works like rolling-paper gum):

  • Mix 1–2 tbsp cornstarch or wheat flour + 1 tbsp water + pinch salt + few drops vinegar (preservative). Cook on low heat 3–5 min into thick paste. Cool.
  • Or use diluted honey (thinned with water) or pectin solution (1 tbsp fruit pectin + water to glue consistency).
  • For extra “hemp” feel: any plant-starch glue works; apply thinly with finger or brush.

4. Prepare Air-Dried Organic Tobacco & Assemble the Cigarette

  1. Use the organic air-cured tobacco (shred as above).
  2. Place a hemp filter at one end of your hemp paper.
  3. Sprinkle even line of tobacco along the paper.
  4. Roll tightly, tuck, and seal with your hemp glue strip. Twist or crimp ends if needed.
  5. Let glue dry 30–60 seconds.

Pro tips

  • Store finished cigarettes in a humidor or airtight tin to keep fresh.
  • Burn rate: Hemp paper + air-cured tobacco burns slower and more evenly than commercial cigarettes.
  • Experiment: Add a tiny bit of hemp flower (CBD-only if desired) for flavor, but keep it mostly tobacco as requested.
  • Tools that help: Cigarette roller machine or injector for consistency.

You now have a completely hemp-based, additive-free cigarette you can call your own “Croatian Safe” version—natural materials, clean ingredients, and no Marlboro-style chemicals
